Almond Streusel Apple Pie

Apples coated in a sugar, flour, salt, almond extract mixture. Spooned into a pre-baked pie shell, topped with an almond streusel and baked golden brown.
Ingredients -
1 unbaked Pie Shell

Filling:
1/2 cup Sugar
2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
1/8 teaspoon Salt
1/4 teaspoon Almond Extract
7 cups thinly sliced peeled Apples

Streusel:
1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour
1/2 cup packed Brown Sugar
1/4 cup Butter, cut into pieces

1/2 cup sliced Almonds

 
Preparation:

1. Preheat oven to 425 F.

2. Bake pie shell 4-5 minutes.

3. Mix sugar, all-purpose flour, salt, and almond extract in large bowl. Stir in apples to coat.

4. Spoon apple pie filling into partially baked pie shell.

5. Mix all-purpose flour, brown sugar, and butter in small bowl, until crumbly.

6. Sprinkle over pie filling.

7. Bake pie 35-45 minutes.

8. Covering pie surface with a foil for final 15-20 minutes of baking to prevent excessive browning.

9. Bake until apples are tender and juice is bubbly.

10. Sprinkle pie with almonds. Bake uncovered 2-3 minutes, until almonds are toasted.

11. Cool completely before serving.

Cooking the pie shell on its own for a few minutes insures the pie crust stays firm and dry, especially when filled with very liquid fillings.
